Developer

The Central Embassy is the latest development from the Central Group, Thailand’s pre-eminent retail and hospitality organisation with over 60 years in business.

Central’s developments have prospered in numerous Thai locations including Wang Burapha, Silom, Chidlom, Lardprao, Chiang Mai and Phuket and are currently expanding into China and beyond.

The group now employs more than 66,000 people

across the retail, property development, manufacturing, hospitality and food-and-beverage industries.

Central earned more than USD 3.7 billion in total revenue in 2009 while sales have increased 16% per annum over the last 8 years and a range of exciting developments ensures that this growth will continue to burgeon and the group continues to prosper.

1927

Khun Tiang Chirathivat starts the family business.

1947

Khun Samrit Chirathivat and his siblings open the first international book and magazine store, mainly importing titles from the US.

1956

Central Department Store Wang Burapha opens – the first branch and the first and biggest department store in Thailand during that time, with an incredible array of categories of products available. It was the first department store to use price tags with the exact price, and no scope for bargaining.

1973

Central Chidlom Department Store is opened, with a “One-Stop Shopping” concept, and claims the crown as the group’s major store.

1978

Thailand’s leading quick service restaurant operator with over 480 outlets of leading international food franchises, covering brands such as KFC, Mister Donut, Auntie Anne’s, Pepper Lunch, Beard Papa’s, Cold Stone Creamery, Chabuton, and RYU.

1982

Central Plaza Lardprao launches, and becomes the biggest one-stop mall in the group, with a department store, retail shops, hotel and office building.

1994

The first Big C Superstore branch opens on Chaeng Wattana Road and is the first “superstore” in Thailand, with branches nationwide to follow.

2005

His Majesty the King graciously bestows the Royal Garuda Emblem upon Central Department Store Co., Ltd. on December 20, 2005. The Emblem is tantamount to a certificate of assurance that the company operates its business with integrity and morality, is financially stable, and has shown social responsibility.

2007

Central celebrates its 60th Anniversary.

2010

Central Department Store launches its first international project in Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province), China.

2011

Central Department Store launches its second international project in Shenyang (Liaoning Province) China.

2013

Central Embassy debuts in Bangkok.
